Organizing For a Stress Free Vacation

Organizing For a Stress Free Vacation

Everyone wants a stress free vacation. You want to be able to relax and enjoy the sights, sounds, family, and friends while on vacation. The best way to get that vacation is to start before you go. If you are not organized before you leave, you will not have a relaxing vacation. The first tip is to make a list of items you will need to take with you no matter the type of vacation you are taking. If you take a similar vacation every year such as going to the beach or camping, try to remember the last trip. Think of the items you forgot or had to go out and buy. Also, try to recall the items you had too much of or that you never used. Make the list as complete as possible. When you return from your trip each time, update that list as soon as possible. Every time you update the list, the easier your next vacation will be to pack all the right items.

The next tip is to make a list of items that need to be done before leaving.

Examples are pet care, arranging for someone to water your indoor or outdoor plants, arranging for someone to take in the mail or the newspapers. You might prefer to cancel the paper or mail especially if your vacation is going to be an extended one. Notify your neighbors that you will be gone so they can keep an eye on your house and report any suspicious activity. Some communities may encourage you to notify the police that you will be gone. Make sure you tell them if you have a cleaning service or lawn service that will be servicing your home while you are gone.

Another tip is to make a list of the last minute items to be done before departing for vacation. Remember to set some lights on timers, unplug the computers, irons, and any other electronic device that could start a fire if a surge occurred or a spark ignited. Make sure emptying the trash and running the dishwasher are on the list. Imagine coming home at midnight after a long trip back to a house that smells so bad, no one can sleep. Go through your fresh fruit and vegetables and give them to your neighbor instead of letting them spoil while you are gone. Do your laundry before you leave because most vacationers have some or quite a bit of laundry to do just from vacation. Why add to the pile?

Making lists prior to vacation will allow you that relaxing vacation you have been waiting for the past few months. Enjoy!
